Bio

"The student is infinitely more important than the subject matter." - Nell Noddings, Caring, a Feminine Approach to Ethics and Moral Education

This year will be my seventeenth at East Limestone. Teaching is my passion, and I believe that working with today's youth is a privilege. I absolutely love what I do!

My wonderful husband Jerry (a 1979 East Limestone High School graduate) and I will celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary this year! We have four children: Elizabeth, 28; Seth, 27; Anna Leigh, 24; and Joel, 19. Elizabeth is a 2011 graduate of UNA and an English teacher. She and her husband, Daniel, live here in Athens, and she teaches English, yearbook, and theater here at East.  Seth and his wife, Chelsy, moved to Ardmore after Seth's graduation from the University of Alabama. He works for LifeSouth. Anna Leigh is a special education and elementary school teacher. She and her husband, Daniel, live in Athens. (No, that isn't a typo. Both of my daughters are married to men named Daniel.)  Our youngest child, Joel, is a freshman majoring in computer science at UNA. In 2012, Seth and Chelsy presented us with our first grandchild, Isaac!! In June of 2013, Anna and Daniel gave us grandson number two, Michael!! In October of 2014,  Liam arrived (Seth & Chelsy), and in March of 2015, grandson number four, Mason joined our family (Anna & Daniel). Anna and Daniel just added one more boy to our team! Malachi Lee was born on June 30, 2017.  Jerry and I are thoroughly enjoying being grandparents. We have an amazing family, and we are very proud of them all. We are very active in our church where I play the piano and my husband teaches Sunday School.

As for me, I graduated from Clements High School in 1984. I went on to attend a Christian college in Indiana during the 1980s before marrying and having children. After several precious years spent as a stay-at-home mother working part time with preschool-aged children, I went back to college and earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education/Language Arts from Athens State University. In 2005, I earned a Master's Degree in Secondary Education/Language Arts from the University of North Alabama. Shortly afterwards, I took additional graduate studies at UNA to add to my English credentials.  I was honored to be East Limestone's Teacher of the Year for 2009-2010.
